Weathershield®

As a general guide, 1 litre of Dulux® exterior wall paint covers up to 16 m²/L, although the exact spread rate varies with surface roughness and porosity and should always be checked on pack or with the paint calculator. For the best finish and durability, apply 2 coats depending on the surface type.

The right Weathershield® product depends on the surface and the finish you want. Low Sheen suits large exterior walls and weatherboards, Matt suits rendered and textured surfaces, Semi Gloss and Gloss suits trims and doors, Super Hide covers dark colours, ColourGuard protects dark colours from fade, and Render Refresh bridges fine cracks on rendered surfaces.

The Dulux Promise guarantees that Dulux® Weathershield® will not peel, flake or blister for as long as you live in your home, provided the paint is applied and maintained as directed on a suitable, sound surface. Keep your proof of purchase and register your project details. If an eligible failure occurs, Dulux will provide replacement paint free of charge to rectify the affected areas. Conditions and exclusions apply, including substrate failure, colour fade, commercial premises and unsuitable coating systems.

To achieve the best exterior finish, work in mild conditions above 5°C, avoid painting in direct hot sun, rain or very humid weather, and always apply two coats for full colour and durability. Cut in edges first, then roll or brush in manageable sections keeping a wet edge to avoid lap marks, and allow the recommended recoat time (around 2 hours in 25°C and 50% humidity conditions) between coats. Good preparation and not over-thinning the paint are the most common ways to avoid finish problems.

As a general guide, Dulux® Weathershield® is touch dry in around 20 minutes and ready to recoat after approximately 2 hours when applied at the recommended spread rate in conditions of around 25°C and 50% relative humidity. Drying may take longer in cool, humid or still conditions, and times can vary by product, surface and application. Always check the specific product label and weather forecast before painting, and protect the coating from rain or overnight dew while it dries.

For most exterior projects, apply two coats of Dulux® Weathershield® to a clean and properly prepared surface. However, the number of coats depends on the specific product, surface and colour. Some bare surfaces require three coats, while bright colours or major colour changes may need an additional coat to achieve full opacity.
