Residential Interior
Single Residential Exterior
Student – Australia and New Zealand (Years 1-6)
Dulux Colour and Communications Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr, is thrilled to welcome this illustrious group to the 2023 Dulux Colour Awards, and for them to experience the cutting edge design and creativity of some of Australia and New Zealand’s most established and emerging architects.
“Chosen for their expertise and dedication to design and architecture, this year’s jurors bring a wealth of experience and an array of valuable perspectives,” says Andrea.
“Tasked with evaluating and deciding on the very best use of colour across architecture and design in Australia and New Zealand is no easy feat, but I believe these five jury members are extremely well-placed to take on the 2023 awards program.”
Jury member, Brahman Perera, is eager to offer his perspective on the profound impact colour can have on our experience and perception of the built environment.
“The choice of colour in architecture has an overwhelming effect on the way a building is perceived by those that view it, walk by it and occupy it each and every day,” says Brahman.
“As a first-time judge, I can’t wait to see and review the colourful and inventive submissions of some of Australia and New Zealand’s best architects and designers, and explore our own perceptions of the effect colour can have within a space.”
The judging panel also has the challenging task of examining the Australian category winners and New Zealand category finalists to select a winner for the coveted Australian Grand Prix and New Zealand Grand Prix awards. The student category is exempt from Grand Prix consideration.
Along with wide acclaim and industry recognition, all individual and business category winners will have their projects showcased on an international scale, amplified via promotional activity on Dulux-owned digital platforms and other parties where appropriate.
In addition to the above, winners of the Student (Years 1-6) Awards will receive a separate monetary prize.
The 2023 Dulux Colour Awards is now open for entries and will be accepting submissions until Wednesday 1 March 2023.
Winners will be announced at an exclusive event co-hosted by Australian design visionaries, Dana Tomic Hughes of Yellowtrace and Sarah-Jane Pyke of Arent & Pyke Interior Design at Space & Time in North Melbourne on Thursday 11 May 2023.
B.E Architecture is an award-winning, multidisciplinary architecture and design firm where Andrew, one of its three directors, has played an integral role in its success for the past 20 years. Brahman approaches interior design as a pursuit in experiential beauty, connecting with his client’s identities and harnesses design as an act of storytelling. He applies an artistic lens to carefully compose natural textures, rich colour pairings and sculptural gestures to produce balanced and compelling interiors. With boundless creative energy and an entrepreneurial spirit, establishing a solo interior design studio in 2020 was a natural progression for Brahman. Brahman has since developed a portfolio of nearly 20 projects across residential, workplace and hospitality, and retail, each expressing his layered and personal approach to interiors.
Byron’s experience spans from small object design to large-scale architecture across several continents, ranging from multi-billion dollar housing developments to extensive heritage projects. In 2008, he won the National Interior Design Award for Emerging Practice, and in 2010 he merged his business with Ryan Russell, creating Russell & George. Byron has designed local and international atmospheres for the likes of Melbourne Central, Medibank, Suria KLCC, and more recently, Burwood Brickworks. With a philosophy encompassing a mix of curiosity, energy, and a fundamental belief in the ability of good design to change a person’s day for the better, Byron provides a wholly unique approach to architecture and design.
Snøhetta is an internationally renowned integrated architecture and design firm where Lisa leads the interior design team across Australia and New Zealand. The practice approaches design with the idea that creativity is not always the sole domain of the architect or designer, but a product of the process of collaboration. Lisa’s work is underpinned by this same integrated approach to design, and a focus on detail. A personal source of inspiration for her design creativity and innovation is gathered through varied sources, such as travel, creating music and connecting with artists and makers. She also contributes to a wider design discourse through her involvement with the Australian Institute of Architects and Design Institute of Australia awards and academic programs.
