Dulux Metalshield® Rust Defence™ is a high performance topcoat deisgned for the protection of ALL suitably prepared metal surfaces. This fast drying technology is ideal for projects that require easy application and quick turnaround.
Rusted metal
For Previously Painted Metal Surfaces:
• Scrape off all loose and flaking paint.
• Sand all surfaces to a flat finish. Dust off.
For Aged/Rusted Surfaces:
• Remove any loose, flaky rust by scraping, sanding or wire brushing.
• Dust off.
For Bare Steel and Wrought Iron:
• Wipe the surface with Metalshield Brush Thinner to remove any residual grease, oil and dirt.
For Galvanised Iron, Zincalume®, Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Copper, Brass, COLORBOND® & Powder coat:
• Clean surface with mild detergent and a SCOTCH-BRITE® Pad to remove any grease, oils and dirt.
• Rinse with clean, potable water.
• Ensure surface is thoroughly dry before priming or top coating.
• This product is suitable for light industrial applications.
For other industrial and structural applications, contact your powder coating specialist.
• Mix thoroughly using a paddle stirrer or equivalent until the contents are uniform.
• Apply even coats of the material to the prepared surface with a roller or brush.
• Additional coats may be required to attain the specified thickness.
• Thinning is not normally required; however, up to 50 ml/litre of potable water may be added to aid application.
Do not pour leftover paint down the drain.
Unwanted paint should be brushed out on newspaper and allowed to dry, and then disposed of via domestic waste collections.

Leave empty paint containers open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container via steel can recycling programs.
Disposal of empty paint containers via domestic recycling programs may differ between local authorities. Check with your local council first.
Do not reuse container unless thoroughly decontaminated.
