Seasoned renovators reveal their suburban oasis in the Sydney suburb of Balmain during a house tour with Three Birds Renovations. It’s a bit industrial, a little Santorini, but it all merges perfectly. Colour featured: Dulux Vivid White™.
Bonnie is the clever creative behind all Three Birds Renovations projects. She’s responsible for all the design choices and making everything look beautiful. She’s self-taught and will be the first to tell you she’s no expert, but she’s got renovating in her blood! Meet Bonnie's parents, Linda and Maurie Scott, as they show Bonnie and Erin around their home. This is not their first renovation and certainly won’t be their last, but Bon claims it’s the “best yet”.
Bon's mum, Linda, had her heart set on matt black cabinetry so she chose one of her fave dark shades, Colorbond® Monument® and had the cabinetry hand-painted.
Linda knows that matt finishes show up more fingerprints than a satin finish, but she loves the romance and organic look of the matt finish so she went down that path with no regrets.
Combined with real Cararra marble benchtops, the romance rating in this kitchen is high.
The walls were painted using Wash&Wear® in Vivid White™, one of Linda's faves.
Changed the colour palette from white accents to black.
New garage door.
Handmade corbels – the four cream architectural locks on the arches.
Black ironwork replaced the white steel balustrade.
Reconstructed the fence using recycled bricks.
New black and white tiles replaced brown tiles on the porch.
New front door, but kept the original glass surrounds.
Knowing your "wow factor" when designing a room or space is important and in this room, it's the 3.5-metre black steel doors against a soaring six-metre brick backdrop. For Bon's parents, these custom doors 'make' the home and were absolutely worth the investment
Bricks have never looked so beautiful and these second-hand beauties bring all the charm and character to the home. When the brickie was first laying them he was trying to avoid using the coloured ones, but when Linda and Maurie realised this, they told him to embrace the different colours and create a unique space. Can you spot the green bricks?
The main bedroom at the front of the original house has a more modern look, uplifted through the use of Vivid White™ on the walls and trim.
The popular white has also brought out the finer details in the of the home's traditional touches.
The guest bedroom has maintained its traditional features with ceiling roses, ornate plasterwork and original windows.
From modern industrial inside through to some Mediterranean vibes outside – who knew these two styles could work so well together?
