The Design Age
Offering a collection of sophisticated shades, experimental colour combinations and accents, the Dulux 2016 Colour Forecast added a sense of luxury and distinction to our lives where living in a fast-paced society left us craving unique, bespoke and individual objects.
The forecast was inspired by the devoted work of makers, designers and creators who were forming a new industry of customisation with a focus on the importance of design more than ever before to produce handcrafted pieces that connected with consumers.
Bio Fragility
Bio Fragility took its cues from natural and living matter where flesh tones, lichen, moss and stone influenced the subtle hues of the palette that were derived from chalky brittle elements rather than soft textures.
Bio Fragility Palette
Fragile life was the embodiment of beauty. We marvelled in the intricacy of creation and its duality of fragility and strength. We called on nature not just to inspire but to collaborate, employing its innate ability to transform materials and forms resulting in beautiful, unexpected and unique designs.
Future Past
Future Past was luxurious and detailed with an emphasis on craftsmanship and an eclectic edge influenced by the industrial age.
Future Past Palette
This theme took its cues from Steampunk references merging with modern design to create a new version of the old. Deep and decadent traditional hues including luxurious browns and rich timbers were energised when combined with mustard, pink and purple.
Retro Remix
Reflecting on colourful eras, we widened our inspiration to include design from the post-modern eras of the '60s and '70s. No longer only captivated by the Memphis movement, Retro Remix mixed together iconic elements from across the mid to late century.
Retro Remix Palette
This fun and playful theme explored a more youthful expression as younger generations were discovering these influences and creating their own remixed style. Experimentation in colour combinations led to acid brights clashing with faded muddied colours such as browns and olive greens.
Infinite Worlds
The Infinite Worlds theme evoked visions of deep ocean creatures glowing with phosphorescent light against coloured backdrops and celestial objects such as planets, moons, exploding stars and vast nebular clouds.
Infinite Worlds Palette
Dark colours form the majority of the palette juxtaposed with flashes of brilliant reds, pinks and coral as well as space-age metallics. Glowing hues were used as accents to recreate the eerie effect of deep unchartered worlds.
Dulux Colour Forecast: now and then
Dulux Colour Forecast 2024 reflects an inner desire for positivity and spaces that nurture within our homes with warm colours such as rich golds, olive greens and reddy browns.
