What the judges said

"The ambition inherent in this proposal is indicative of the design freedom student work enables. In some instances, the potential is squandered but here it has real vision, the aim being to adapt an existing site for affordable housing that prioritises community, sustainability and resilience, while honouring stories of Country. It unfolds across three scales, with green corridors and wetland networks uniting the masterplan, open space and hubs for collective activities, and dwellings within existing structures and low-rise new builds. Colour-wise, the entire scheme is democratic, welcoming and grounded in the contextual palette. Subtle pastels are pervasive amongst reused materials and green spaces, while tricolour awnings break up the mass. This is a project with a big heart and an optimistic intent."
