What the judges said...
"The graphic power and uncompromising use of colour in this exceptional project led to its unanimous selection for the Australian Grand Prix award. Breathtaking, timeless and transformative, the Sarah & Sebastian store by Richards Stanisich is a jewel-like space befitting the innovative jewellery brand’s identity, but its relevance as a masterclass in colour psychology reaches beyond the genre’s limits, and this factor alone goes to the heart of the prestigious award’s purpose.
"Conceptually, the commitment to a singular colour, specifically Dulux Delta Break green, is courageous and surprising, especially in an upmarket shopping strip that errs on the conservative side. Its execution sees the juxtaposition of this vibrant hue with reflective materials and rich organic textures, offset by soft mood-lighting, to illicit an ethereal effect reminiscent of the shimmering ocean and its giant kelp forests.
"Unlike so many projects that strive for connection to place, the Sarah & Sebastian store envelops and transports the customer away from all contextual references through its use of colour, setting it apart from fashion or retail norms, yet it will inspire projects of all genres thanks to its uncompromising rigour and experiential ambition."
