Dulux® AcraStone® is an artisan range of products hand crafted to create a seamless Microcement finish which is unique to each piece of work. The AcraStone range of products are designed for application by professional applicators. Dulux® AcraStone® Base Coat Part A is a water-based epoxy hardener in paste form that must be mixed with Dulux® AcraStone® Part B (ratio 10:1 by weight) before application. The low VOC formula is designed to be used as a base levelling coat, but can also be used as a finish coat to achieve a highly textured design. Dulux® AcraStone® Epoxy Resin Part B is a liquid epoxy resin for Base Coat Part A or Finish Coat (Fine or Medium) Part A.
Practical spreading rates will vary from quoted theoretical figures depending on substrate porosity, surface roughness, overspray losses, application methods and environmental conditions (e.g. wind).
Do not apply paint if Relative Humidity is above 85% or temperature is within 3°C of Dew Point.
Do not apply if the surface temperature is greater than 40°C or below 10°C, or likely to fall below 10°C during the application or drying period.
Dry times apply to a single coat at recommended spread rate and at 25°C and 50% Relative Humidity.
Allow longer times under cool, moist, or still conditions and or when applied at high film builds.
Exterior applications protect from dew, rain and frost for 48 hours when apply at the recommended spread rate. Avoid application in hot, windy conditions or on hot surfaces cool the surface by hosing with water and paint the cool damp surface.
The coating system should be cleaned on a regular basis. This will help maintain your overall aesthetic appearance and preserve your Dulux AcraStone coating system.
Surface Preparation
AcraStone Base is designed for application on strong and sound substrates such as concrete, cement screeds, ceramic tiles and CFC flooring. Refer to DuSpec specification for preparation and full specification details. Weaker substrates such as platerboard will require a different specification.
Apply on clean dry surfaces, free of oil, grease, dust or any other element that may affect the adhesion of the system. Clean the surface with degreasing product. Make sure that tiles are well fixed and not detaching or drummy.
Do not apply the product where there is rising damp.
Ensure moisture content is less than 10% as measured with standard moisture meter.
Application Procedure and Equipment
The Dulux AcraStone range of products are designed for application by professional applicators. Applicators must have completed a 'Microcement' application course and hold a current Dulux Trade account.
Mix Base Coat Part A with AcraStone Epoxy Resin Part B in a ratio of 10:1 by weight. Mix with drill for 3 minutes or until a homogenous mix is achieved.
The pot-life of the two components is 1 hour. Only mix the material that will be used by weighing out Part A and B.
Apply the product by trowel and build first coat to ensure surface is levelled. Embed 80g/m2 fibreglass mesh, by trowelling into first coat. Mesh must always be used for crack resistance. For flooring it can be laid on the surface prior to the first coat and for walls it must be embedded in the first coat.
AcraStone Base Coat must be sanded to ensure a smooth even finish is achieved and mesh lines are removed. The Base Coat must be sanded with a '50 grit' diamond tip sanding pad. It is recommended to sand the product between 4 and 24 hours after application depending on temperature and conditions, the product becomes tougher as it cures making it harder to sand.
For wet areas, ensure correct drainage slope to avoid water stagnation: at least 12.5mm fall per linear meter.
Spread rate varies between first and second coat depending on unevenness of substrate:
1st coat - approx 0.7m2/L
2nd coat - approx 1.2m2/L
