Top design trends for autumn

As we enter the cooler months, now is the perfect time to update your home and embrace the colours of the season. This autumn, we can expect to see a combination of warm neutrals that help to create the cocooning atmosphere we crave in our homes as the seasons change. Dulux colours featured: Stilted Stalks and Beaten Track.

Embrace an earthy colour palette

For an instant refresh, a coat of paint is the easiest, low-cost update you can make to your home. The Dulux Connect palette is filled with beautiful earth-based neutrals that are easy to decorate with in our homes. The Connect colours speak to our growing passion for craftsmanship, sustainability and living more simply, and are also extremely versatile and work with a variety of architectural styles.

Styling tips:

  • Try something different: If you want to keep your existing wall colours but still experiment with the Dulux Connect colours, try painting small furniture pieces, such as side tables, planters or vases, and then add in cushions and throws in similar tones.

  • Test it out: It’s always a good idea to test paint colours before you commit. Order colour stickers or sample pots and view them at different times of day and night, under both natural and artificial light. Or, book an appointment with the Dulux Colour Design Service.

Wrap the room

To move away from all-white ceilings, consider running your chosen wall colour onto the ceiling to create a truly enveloping feeling. For this living room, we painted the main walls and ceiling in Beaten Track paired with the slightly earthier Stilted Stalks on the fireplace wall to make it a clear focal point.

Styling tip:

  • Use tonal colours: Selecting two warm earthy colours and running them from floor to ceiling, as illustrated here, wraps the room in warmth.

Up the texture

Texture is key to making any space feel inviting. For a cosy and comfortable feel, mix and match soft-touch, tactile fabrics and natural materials such as linens, velvets, corduroy and soft leathers in the same colour palette to create a cohesive look.

Highlight special features

When planning your autumn design update, look for ways to highlight your home’s unique characteristics and embrace your natural surroundings.

Adding a deep hue can be a fast and effective way to accentuate existing architectural features, like how we have opted for the rich, warm mid-tone Hammer Grey on the opening that leads to the home’s main entrance.

Styling tip:

  • Take in the view: Do you have a beautiful backyard outlook? Make it a highlight by keeping window coverings to a minimum or dispensing with them altogether.

  • Use accent colours: Contrasting hues can work well as a backdrop for your favourite artwork or behind shelving.
