Dulux Colour Forecast has been our most celebrated event for colour lovers everywhere for 22 years. An annual trend report put together by our talented Dulux colour team, it predicts the beautiful colours set to inspire and influence interiors for the year ahead in Australia and New Zealand. Dulux Colour Expert, Andrea Lucena-Orr, has worked on every Colour Forecast since its inception and shares with us her trend forecasting process.
“We research from many different influences - fashion, media, political and finance, technology - as well as researching where colour and design are heading in Western Europe. Once we gather all of this, we then filter the colour information to ensure these colours will work in both Australia and NZ.”
“I think every year has a significance with colour and design forecasts, however living through a pandemic has certainly made us feel much more connected to our homes. The Dulux 2022 Colour Forecast is even more significant when you want to create changes and add a different feel to your home especially after spending more time indoors than ever before. The exciting addition to the 2022 Colour Forecast was the Wonder Palette and is quite different from what we saw in 2021 - the hope and positivity on the horizon has been created in this uplifting palette.”
Walls
Sandpaper
Yellows are vibrant and reflective and can create a happy and bright environment. Yellow is warm and is perfectly suited for south-facing spaces. Yellows can be used in casual living areas, hallways and entry spaces to create a light-filled bright setting.

Black Caviar
A warm dark grey charcoal with a red undertone, Black Caviar can sometimes show purple in some lights. It can be used a feature colour inside or to highlight key architectural interest on the outside.
“I have many favourite trends and it’s hard to pinpoint just one. I love lighting so seeing more handcrafted pendants is always lovely to see as well as natural stone and beautiful timber in quality furnishings. I love colour so my decor style changes regularly. In my job I’m constantly seeing new and exciting designs which means I’m always adding to my collection!”
“There are so many ways you can bring your home to life with our Colour Forecast colours, whether done in a big or small way. Adding a few colours from our latest colour trends helps keep your decor and home up-to-date. You don’t have to change everything every year, but it’s lovely to experience subtle changes that evolve your decoration style over time. And there’s also many ways to add colour to a rental property with decor and furnishings or by painting a canvas.”
“Forecasts are an evolution in interiors. They don’t always change dramatically from one year to another. They can have subtle changes - some colours may disappear and then we might see new colours appear suddenly. Unlike fashion, we don’t necessarily change everything every year or season for our interiors. However, it’s great to add some change to help create a different feeling and atmosphere in the space and keep your home feeling fresh and current.”
