Painting a brighter future for children's charity

Painting a brighter future for children's charity

We paired up with a Dulux Accredited Painter to help them transform the headquarters of Variety – the children’s charity, into a fresh-looking space.

Lending a hand

With a kind donation of their time and skills, the team from Brush Paint Wall prepared a wall for a stunning interior mural and repainted the Variety head office in Port Melbourne.

This was an opportunity to help the Variety team so it could keep doing what it does best – helping children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn so they can attain their full potential regardless of ability or background.

“When I first came here and saw the state of the place and how scuffed it was…I saw how we can actually help transform it. It’s an honour to be here helping the charity and giving back what we can as painters.”

Abraham Kourtidis, director, Brush Paint Wall.

Estimated to have last been painted more than 30 years ago, Brush Paint Wall transformed the tired-looking stairwell, reception, kitchen, hallway and storeroom into a more professional-looking space with Dulux Wash&Wear® +PLUS Anti-Scuff and Dulux Professional Interior proudly donated by Dulux.

Once preparations were complete, two artists from Urban Art Australia painted the mural to celebrate Variety's values of equality, community, joy and action as well as capture some of its key programs to embrace and support inclusivity, mobility, and education such as

  • Individual and community grants for mobility equipment, communication devices, learning aids, and technology,

  • Supporting talented children with a disability, chronic illness, or financial hardship to further their development,

  • Educational scholarships,

  • Kids' events and programs, and

  • Bicycle donation program, Bikes for Kids.

A picture paints a 1000 words

“To have the office painted might sound a little frivolous, but when people walk into our office they will get an instant sense of our culture and they’ll feel the kind of esteem and care that we have," says Mandy Burns, Variety's chief executive officer. “This screams joy and happiness, equality and community. It’s just fantastic to have something so beautiful that captures the very essence of Variety.”
