ANNOUNCED
Five of the country's most promising architectural
professionals were announced at the Australian Achievement in
Architecture Awards in Adelaide as the 2012 Dulux Study Tour
recipients on March 21st 2012.
This year marks the fifth year of the Dulux Study Tour, a
program that inspires and fosters Australia's next generation of
emerging architectural talent. Each year, the Dulux Study Tour
recipients embark on a 10 day 'once in a lifetime' trip, offering
the winners the opportunity to visit world renowned
architects, get exclusive look into the think tank of
international practices and candid site tours by the architects
themselves. This year, the five winners travel to the United
Arab Emirates, Germany and London.
To be eligible for the Dulux Study Tour, entrants submitted
examples of their work, along with testimonials from clients and
employers to showcase their talent. Six jury members, consisting of
experienced industry-related members, including Australian
Institute of Architects National President, Brian Zulaikha played a
hand in selecting five recipients from over 60 short listed
entries.
The 2012 Dulux Study Tour winners include:
Anna Maskiell - SKM S2F, Melbourne
Anna Maskiell impressed the jury with her commitment to
excellence design through research skills and testing for complex
built environments.
Weian Lim, Matt Gibson A & D,
Melbourne
Weian Lim already has prestigious architectural accolades
under his belt and his passion for architecture was clearly
demonstrated in his submission, making him a worthy recipient for
the Dulux Study Tour.

for his residential and commercial projects. The Sydney-based
architect's dedication, energy and passion about architecture
impressed the jury.

astute understanding of the contribution a building can make to the
life and cultural identity of a suburb.

The jury was delighted with James's fine-tuned sense of design
that was displayed in his submission. His combined desire of

Coombe, Phil White(Dulux) and Anna Maskiell)
"This year's recipients effectively showcased
their talents and desire to hone and explore their skill set,
knowledge and experience, making them all very deserving
recipients," Zulaikha said.
For the first time, the Dulux Study Tour travels beyond European
borders and kicks off in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, home to some of the
globe's iconic architectural projects, like the tower
known as the leaning tower of Abu
Dhabi, Capital Gate. Next stop on the itinerary is the
historically rich and beautiful, Berlin, home to the Reichstag. The
last leg of the journey will see recipients visit Fosters, one of
London's well known architecture practices, and join up with the
Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for a farewell
cocktail party.
Dulux General Manager - Trade Division, Phil White, who was also
on the selection jury, said that it is Dulux's desire to make the
overall experience and benefits gained by Dulux Study Tour winners
to be life changing in their architectural careers.
"With exclusive access to the think tanks of world-leading
architecture practices, this rare opportunity allows young
Australians to be part of global architecture conversations,
increases their awareness and knowledge of trends overseas, but
most importantly allows them to draw on inspiration to further
their own careers.
"At Dulux, we're all about enriching and fostering tomorrow's
talent and the Dulux Study Tour is a vehicle that allows us to
proudly show our support for the next generation of architects,"
White said.
The five successful recipients of the Dulux Study Tour
2012 will depart on 5 May. Upon returning to Australian
shores, all recipients will produce a report on their findings.
The Dulux Study Tour is as collaborative initiative between the
Australian Institute of Architects and Dulux. Entries for the 2013
Dulux Study Tour opens on 8 August 2012.
