Zincanode® 402 is an anti-corrosive zinc-rich two-pack epoxy primer. The key components are anti-corrosive pigment (finely divided zinc dust) and polyamide cured epoxy resin. Zincanode® 402 provides exceptional corrosion resistance in harsh exposures by sacrificial methods. Zincanode® 402 is recommended for use over abrasive blast cleaned steel surfaces in most harsh environments, especially where overcoating is required without special mist or seal coat techniques. Zincanode® 402 offers ease of application, high film builds without mud-cracking and exceptional adhesion to field weld areas cleaned by power sanding or power wire brushing.
Features
- Zinc rich
- Very rapid cure time compared to conventional epoxies
- Very high corrosion protection even in severe coastal environments
- Compatible with a range of intermediates and topcoats
- Suitable for use in high temperature environments.
- Excellent durabilit and abrasion resistance
Benefits
- Quick turn around time for applicators
Performance Guide
| Weatherability | Some chalking and yellowing may occur on exterior exposure if not topcoated with a suitable UV resistant coating, but this will not detract from the high performance protective properties of this coating. |
| Heat Resistance | Up to 200°C dry heat. |
| Water Resistance | Excellent resistance to fresh and salt water. Excellent resistance to immersion when suitably topcoated. |
| Abrasion Resistance | Very good abrasion resistance when fully cured. |
| Solvent Resistance | Resists splash and spillage of aromatic hydrocarbons and most common alcohols. |
| Acid Resistance | Do not use in acidic atmospheres unless suitably topcoated. |
| Alkaline Resistance | Should not be used in strongly alkaline environments unless suitably topcoated. |
| Salt Resistance | Excellent resistance to neutral and alkali salts when suitably topcoated. |
Application
Roller, Brush, Airspray, Conventional Spray
Surface Preparation
Round off all rough welds and sharp edges, and remove weld spatter. Degrease by detergent wash according to AS1627.1. For all structural and decorative steel, abrasive blast clean to AS1627.4 Class 2.5. Remove all dust. Apply first coat before surface deterioration occurs.
Uses
Zincanode® 402 is specified for use in power generation plants, bulk handling equipment and oil refineries, as well as in mining and chemical processes, offshore structures and exposed pipelines. Zincanode® 402 is also the preferred primer for all externally exposed structural and decorative steelwork for high-rise residential apartments, offices, shopping centres, and all major projects.
