Surface Preparation
NEW OR BARE SURFACES Sand timber and parquetry to an even, smooth surface. Prepare cork in accordance with manufacturerÂ’s specifications. Ensure the surface is dry and free from dust, dirt, wax and oil. Clean oily timbers, such as Brushbox, Spotted Gum, Cypress and Tallowwood with methylated spirits and allow to dry. Note: Do not use steel wool on surfaces to be coated with UltraFloor as severe staining will occur. PREVIOUSLY FINISHED SURFACES Remove any polishes with appropriate strippers. Wash the surface using warm water and household detergent to remove all traces of dirt and oil and allow to dry. Sand to a uniform dull finish. Vacuum and wipe off dust. Check for adhesion by applying UltraFloor to a test area, approximately 250mm x 250mm. Allow to dry for 24 hours then firmly press a strip of sticky tape over the section coated and rip off quickly. If the coating is removed, sand back to bare timber. If the coating is not removed, sand the test area back to a uniform dull surface and proceed. Note: If previous coating has worn back to expose bare timber, parquetry or cork, it must be thoroughly removed before continuing. Nail holes and surface defects should be filled with Intergrain Woodblend Wood Filler after the first coat of UltraFloor. Do not use linseed oil putty. APPLICATION Stir thoroughly before and during use with a flat blade stirrer. Do not shake or thin. Cut in around edges to a maximum width of 50mm with a narrow brush or applicator. Apply an even, generous coat with a quality synthetic or pure long bristle brush, lambswool applicator or short nap roller, laying off lightly in the direction of the grain. Work along 3-4 boards at a time, keeping a wet edge to prevent lapping or join marks. Do not overwork or overspread the coating as this will result in a patchy uneven finish. It is normal for UltraFloor to have a slightly milky appearance on application, this disappears on drying. Allow a minimum of three hours to dry before sanding lightly with a fine grit paper to remove any raised grain. Vacuum to remove sanding dust. Apply TWO more coats as above, sanding lightly in between only if the surface is rough. FOUR coats may be applied for high traffic areas if desired. MAINTENANCE Clean floors using water and a non-abrasive, household detergent. To ensure minimum preparation when recoating, surfaces should be recoated before UltraFloor has worn away to expose bare timber or cork. Clean to remove any waxes or polishes, When dry, sand to a uniform dull surface and remove sanding dust. Apply 1-2 coats following application instrctions. Where UltraFloor has worn away to expose bare timber or cork, the coating must be thoroughly removed and the surface prepared as per instructions for bare timber. Add UltraGrip to UltraFloor Satin for a slip resistant finish
