Dulux & Gemma Caon
Gemma Caon has teamed up with Dulux to release a
limited edition colour palette as part of her winning prize
into the 2011 Dulux Colour
Awards.
Gemma, an undergraduate at the University of South
Australia studying in her final year of a Bachelor of Interior
Architecture, took out the 2011 Dulux Colour Awards student
category prize for MADS design (pictured
below).
The judges commented that Gemma's submission
was "designed as a beautiful object- the module lands and
creates a space for young designers. Contemporary yet traditional
colours are contrasted against a heritage environment."
Gemma said her inspiration came from Frank Ghery's giant
flower sculpture, Le Téléphone, in Pont de Gagliano in
Paris. She sought to create a playful and inviting
concept to a design studio situated in a morbid city parking
space.
"The use of colour within any space opens possibilities to
design and allows us to create our own world through vivid tones
and textural surfaces. By generating such dramatic yet contemporary
spaces that intrigue the senses we form a rippling effect onto
others, making them influenced and creating exciting and unexpected
results within the design world. This can potentially shift
our thoughts with using colour within space, and it is techniques
like this that creates new and exciting colourful
opportunities."
