Surface Preparation
NOTE : For best results - oxide deposits, loose or flaking paint should be removed by power tool cleaning or abrasive grit blast cleaning. This is essential to achieve maximum protection. Following surface preparation the cleaned and dry surface should be primed as soon as possible. PREPAINTED SURFACES : Ensure any loose and flaking paint (see Note 1.) is scraped off. Sand all surfaces to a flat finish. Dust off. Treat any bare metal as indicated below. Note 1. Check the adhesion of the old paint by cutting an 'X' through the film with a razor blade or trimming knife, pressing cellulose tape firmly across the cut and ripping it off. If the old paint comes off with the tape it should all be removed before applying paint. ALUMINIUM : Clean with Scotch Brite. Wipe with a clean damp rag. ALUMINIUM (aged) : Remove white rust by wire brushing or scraping. Clean with sugar soap solution. Rinse off thoroughly. GALVANISED IRON : Clean with Scotch Brite and sugar soap solution. Rinse off thoroughly. GALVANISED IRON (aged) : Remove white rust by wire brushing or scraping. Clean with sugar soap solution. Rinse off thoroughly. ZINCALUME : Wipe clean with a damp rag. ZINCALUME (aged) : Remove white rust by wire brushing or scraping. Clean with sugar soap solution. Rinse off thoroughly. COPPER AND BRASS : Clean with Scotch Brite. Wipe with a clean damp rag.
